For some reason when people think of whether or not we are over populated, they only consider how much physical space each person takes up. They come up with some fancy, clever saying such as "You could fit all 8 billion people in the world side by side inside the state of Texas." Well, physical space is not the least of our concern when it comes to over population. You must instead consider how much everyone is eating and what kind of resources they are using. When you crunch the numbers of how many resources per year 8 billion people consume and look at how much is left on the planet, you start to to see why we might have a problem. The always mentioned commandment of "multiply and replenish the earth" starts to seem like "multiply and diminish the earth."
Below are three key reasons why we need to incorporate some kind of population control.
The Economy
The economy is perhaps the reason that is most relevant to people today as to why we need some way to implement population control into our society. The current unemployment rate stands at a whopping 9.2% in the United States as of a study done in early 2011. That is higher than it has ever been and it continues to climb higher the more and more over populated our country becomes. Sure, over population is a world wide problem, but this is just an example of how we can feel it in America.
Too many people are making too many children and as a result, we have too little jobs for too many people. The argument could be made that people could start businesses which would produce more jobs for everyone else, but in as much of a financial bind as our country is in, starting new business and creating more jobs just does not seem plausible. Starting a new business costs a lot of money and is a very risky thing to do. In an economy that is so bad that the people are only spending money on the necessities, you can't expect to make a whole lot of sales and stay afloat for long after starting a new business.
The bottom line is that way have too many people and not enough jobs.
The Future of Society and Future Generations
If the utter degradation and collapse of our economy isn't reason enough to consider that way may need some form of population control, let's have a look at what our future generation can expect to face.
If
population control remains unchecked, by the year 2100 the inhabitants
of this planet are looking at some very hard times. Our unemployment
rate is already at 9.2%. Imagine how much higher it will be in 2100
when there are 21 BILLION people living on the planet! That is almost 3 times as many as we have around now days and we're already running into problems.
On average, there are 8 births and 3 deaths every second, world wide. This leaves us with gaining an extra 5 people on the planet every single second. In just one minute, we will increase the world population by 300 (5 x 60) people. In one hour (300 x 60), we will have increased our population by 18000 people. Over the course of the next day, which is 24 hours, we will have added a whopping total of 432,000 (24 x 18,000) people to our global population. This is almost half a million people in just one day! In one year, our population will have increased by more than 157 million people.
So, if we know we are gaining at least 157 million people a year, let's calculate how many people will be around on the earth by the year 2100, which is just one century away. It is currently the year 2011, so we have about 89 years until then. 89 x 157 million is a whopping 13,973,000 people in addition to the 8 billion we already have. This brings us to over 21 billion people on the planet earth by the year 2100. This isn't even considering the fact that our rate of multiplication will increase tremendously every single year. In reality, you're probably looking at anywhere between 30 to 50 billion people on the planet by then, because more and more people become capable of reproducing.
Our offspring are not the only ones
who are going to suffer this catastrophe of extreme overpopulation
either. Many of us who are well into our adult years will suffer
through the beginning of it as well. For example, someone who is only
20 years old right now is probably going to live until they are about
80, which will be the year 2091. That is only 9 years before the
population is at the all-time high of 21 BILLION people. The population
will still be sporadically out of control by then.
Imagine how low the quality of life would be for the average person by then. This is a very serious crisis that we have right around the corner unless we step up to the plate and do something about it. As David Rothschild puts it, "some pretty heartless decisions will have to be made to prevent this from happening."
Quickly Disappearing Resources
Yes, our natural resources are a huge issue as well. No, I am not a hippie or a tree hugger and I know that Global Warming is a huge scam. However, the fact that we are rapidly running out of resources is a non-debatable fact. When will we be all out of resources? The answer should shock and scare you quite a bit.
The experts have set the year 2050 as the projected date that our planet will 'expire.' With the rapidly multiplying number of global population, resources continue to be drained and drained from our planet at an ever increasing rate.
A study conducted by the World Wildlife Fund (or WWF) has warned humanity that we are plundering the planet's natural resources at a rate the planet's capacity will not be able to hold up for much longer. The report highlights the fact that over one third of the planet's natural world has already been destroyed by the human race over the past three decades alone! In just thirty years we finally made the one third of the way miles stone for using up all the planet has to offer. Now imagine how rapidly we will do that if our population gets to 21 billion people.
To paint a clear picture of what we are doing, The WWF
has included in the report that the North Atlantic's cod stocks have
decreased from 246,000 in the year 1970 to lower than 60,000 in 1995.
The study has also revealed a sharp descent in the earth's ecosystems
between the years 1970 and 2001. It shows that the Earth's forest cover
has shrunk by about 12%, the ocean's biodiversity by approximately one
third and freshwater ecosystems about 55%. The report also covers
alarming decreases in natural wildlife and livestock over in detail. We
are running out of food fast!
Imagine how rapidly all of these resources will continue to exhaust, as the rate of global population begins to climb higher and higher.
One of my favorite native American quotes is, "When you have cut down the last tree and poisoned the last river, you will know you can not eat money."
Strategies for Implementing Population Control
Now that we have discussed why we need population control, we should also discuss how it would best be implemented. Just to make things clear, I am not and never will be for genocide or mass extermination of the existing population. My approach involves sterilization.
In the next section, I will discuss ways that people have already tried to implement population control, but have failed. I will also discuss an approach I think would be a sane, reliable and decent way to implement this on a global scale.

I'm pleasantly surprised anyone thinks so. I as about 99% sure I was going to get nothing but hate mail for speaking on this, but I felt the statistics had to be shared. People tend to get easily offended on this subject, because on some level we hold to the old fashioned beliefs of constantly making big families. However, times are changing and it looks like we all need to be a little more careful.

Just throwing some number out there it took about 12 years to get from 6b to 7b (and about the same as it took form 5b to 6b), doing similar maths to your article even if it took 11 years that is only 2.88 people per second...I'm just wondering where the 5 people figure comes from as it's a gross overestimation.
Also populations growth has slowed in most Western countries, have a look at places Italy and Japan as a prime example, I will admit in some places they have continued having big families and its not everywhere, but when these places and there people get more advnaced and educated will should see a similar thing happen.
Additionally, UN demographers predict only 9b by 2045, this is reflecteive of the previous argument that we are slowing our growth as we expect an additionally 2b in another 33-38 years time.
IMO i think it may even plateau at 9-10b...although we can't plan for doomsday scenarios so anything is possible by the end of the 21st century but I think 21b by 2100, I think more chance of me winning the lottery...unless you can exaplin to me otherwise...

Problem is we need the "moral right" to stop touting about how every life is precious yet does little with the ones in most need... there are exceptions, but I've seen the "big-happy-family" argument as mere tools for who's got more followers in their "religion." Be logical people, the rapture ISN'T whisking us away and the world WAS NOT made for our plunder.
21 billion is a little over the accepted projection - 12 billion or so declining back to around 5 billion by the end of the millenium.

Wow. I am not religous, but what you are suggesting is not a viable idea. Because it doesn't solve the issue.
AT least, it doesn't solve the cause or the root of the issue. You're saying we need less people for their to be enough jobs an money for the rest of us, or the rest of you, if i am one of those people that should have never been born. (excuuuuse me for using resources and looking for gainful employment) I imagine you wold receive some hate mail over this, but again, I don't take a religous stance, HOWEVER, I would not be afraid to say that your opinionated recommendation doesn't sound very much like global depopulation with a softer stance. (a lot of elitist believe in global depopulation, they even pay for pundits to write articles like this) or abortion an sterilization control like they do in communist countries.(and like here in america which I will get into in just one sec) Which i personally can't wait to see the "you can't force rules on my body" team of Pro-abortionist fight for forced abortions or sterilizations on families, just bcz i LOOOVE to call BS! Jobs are created out of necessity of functions in an ever rising STABLE economic system. Now, I can't go further into the facts without referencing religions somewhat, because of the idea presented in the article. As there are ppl who would have similiar views as my mother, or the lady up there who seems to hate fundementalists (hating them don't make you a better person lady!) but let's speak on how anti religous hate groups, and even counter christian/jew/islam religions get started, most notably SATANISM. EWWWWW this guy must be a christian he believes theres a satan, put him in a padded room! LISTEN good, It doesn't matter what I or YOU believe, or hold opinion to, the TRUTH is that there are groups of ritualistic satanist who absolutely believe there is a satan, and you don't have to believe like them, hm, in order for them to attempt to listen to the devil or whatever is in their head, (psychopaths) and go and follow orders. So, the idea in satanism, is much like what is described here in population control, mixed in with a little indoctrination for the controlled population. This is done by creating fake problems for which they already have a solution to provide. Only, you look at a facet of the issue, and make it seem like it is the whole point, well redirecting blame. Satanists love to blame a victim.
Let's look at the whole point. You are for sterilization, with implementations on a global scale. Well, you're not the first with that idea. But the concept of a white, blond-haired, blue-eyed master Nordic race didn't originate with Hitler. The idea was created in the United States, and cultivated in California, decades before Hitler came to power. California eugenicists played an important, although little known, role in the American eugenics movement's campaign for ethnic cleansing.
Eugenics was the racist pseudoscience determined to wipe away all human beings deemed "unfit," preserving only those who conformed to a Nordic stereotype. Elements of the philosophy were enshrined as national policy by forced sterilization and segregation laws, as well as marriage restrictions, enacted in twenty-seven states. In 1909, California became the third state to adopt such laws. Ultimately, eugenics practitioners coercively sterilized some 60,000 Americans, barred the marriage of thousands, forcibly segregated thousands in "colonies," and persecuted untold numbers in ways we are just learning. California was considered an epicenter of the American eugenics movement. During the Twentieth Century's first decades, California's eugenicists included potent but little known race scientists, such as Army venereal disease specialist Dr. Paul Popenoe, citrus magnate and Polytechnic benefactor Paul Gosney, Sacramento banker Charles M. Goethe, as well as members of the California State Board of Charities and Corrections and the University of California Board of Regents.
Eugenics would have been so much bizarre parlor talk had it not been for extensive financing by corporate philanthropies, specifically the Carnegie Institution, the Rockefeller Foundation and the Harriman railroad fortune. They were all in league with some of America's most respected scientists hailing from such prestigious universities as Stamford, Yale, Harvard, and Princeton"
Now the mention of the nazis, pre world war, getting inspired by eugenics programs in the states seems a little strange, but coupled with the fact that POST wwII, hundreds of nazi scientists were brought to the USA, given amnesty, alot changed their names, and were allowed to continue working where they left off in germany. So the nazis, didn't lose the war, they just transferred headquarters.
If you were to visit europe, you can see nazism and fascism is still in full effect. Now this is painting a disturbing picture. To speak on another group that came from nazi Germany, is the Rockefeller family. The Rockefeller family, as mentioned, own the central banking system that illegally operates within our country, a private corporation that can print its own money out of thin air, an we borrow it from them, and then can never pay back the interests because they only print the money, and they purposely only printed the money to lend, and the money to cover the interest, doesn't even exists, much like the money that was lent in the first place. We now the Rockefeller foundation, which calls itself a philanthropists group, was funding the eugenics program in America, and they were a family from Germany, which also accepted eugenics under Hitler. See the pattern here?
Now couple that with the amount of control their private corporation has over our government AND THE agencies our gov runs, such as the education system for starters. With a wide range of influence on who is allowed to teach and what they are allowed to teach, with some very clever keywords, and emotional responses, they can inspire people to even write a soft, doesn't seem so bad of an idea article such as this, and make it look like a 'solution' to a 'problem'. Well, this only seems legit on the surface, because as I stated previously, you do not address the root causes of our economic and therefore our population issues. Let's touch on capitalists gain, which ties right back in with those Nazi Rockefellers. In order for their to be a sustainable, and predictable capitalistic gain for the corporations, there has to be a control on people, and what they are allowed to do, whether it be having kids, getting an education, looking for employment, starting a business, or what can and cannot be done at their own property. Again there HAS to be control. Otherwise, people my go out and have a bunch

Obama and his handlers are behind The coming pandemic. It will be man made, and will be some form of mutated H1N1, or possibly Bird or Swine flu. The plan will elliminate millions of Americans, and the Plastic Grave liners with Lids that can be sealed are already strategically placed around the country by the Hundreds of thousands.The plan is for it to LOOK LIKE a naturally occuring pamdemic event. but It will be anything BUT.
I completely agree with you, majestic. Mass deaths are on the horizon. Ever since United Nations has called for a 90% world depopulation in Agenda 21, it's been inevitable.
